EDUCATORS AND FACILITATORS
Dr. Michael N. Sorsdahl
CD, PhD(Ed), PsyD, CCC, CCS, GCDF
Founder | Psychologist | Educator | Speaker
Dr. Michael Sorsdahl is the founder of Juvenation Wellness Inc., where he develops and delivers education that connects professional knowledge with practical application. Drawing on experience in psychology, counselling, university teaching, professional ethics, and military leadership, Michael creates learning opportunities that encourage reflection, strengthen judgment, and support meaningful growth.
His webinars, workshops, and speaking engagements explore ethical practice, approaches informed by an understanding of trauma, wellness, communication, leadership, and career development. He works with helping professionals, students, organizations, and community audiences, adapting the content to their interests, responsibilities, and learning needs.
Education and Professional Practice
Michael holds a PhD in Education from the University of British Columbia, a Doctor of Psychology in Clinical Psychology, a Master of Arts in Counselling from the University of Victoria, and a Master of Defence Studies. He is a Licensed Psychologist in British Columbia and a Registered Psychologist in Alberta, as well as a Canadian Certified Counsellor, Certified Clinical Supervisor, and Global Career Development Facilitator.
He brings more than twenty years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and groups through trauma, psychological distress, and complex life and career transitions. His clinical work includes experience with military members, veterans, first responders, and LGBTQ2+ and gender and sexually diverse communities. These experiences inform his teaching by connecting theory with the circumstances people encounter in their personal and professional lives.
Michael’s clinical services are provided through Meridian Mental Health and Assessment Inc. Juvenation Wellness is the home for his educational programs, resources, and speaking engagements.
Ethics, Scholarship, and Supervision
Professional ethics is a central focus of Michael’s work. He chairs the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association’s Ethics Complaints Committee, jointly chairs its Ethics Review Committee, and chairs the International Association for Counselling’s Ethics Committee.
Michael jointly edited Ethics in a Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Context, and his PsyD doctoral research examined mental health professionals’ experiences of ethical complaints. As Editor in Chief of the Canadian Journal of Counselling and Psychotherapy, he also contributes to the development and communication of scholarship within the profession.
His experience as a university instructor and clinical supervisor informs an approach to education that makes room for questions, differing perspectives, and the careful examination of assumptions. He encourages practitioners to move beyond identifying a rule toward explaining how their decisions account for professional responsibilities, relationships, and context.
Leadership and Learning
Michael retired from the Royal Canadian Navy in 2019 after 25 years of service as a Naval Reserve officer. During his career, he commanded two Canadian warships and served as Commander of the Leadership Division and Deputy Commandant of the West Coast Naval School.
That background brings an additional perspective to his work on leadership, communication, accountability, and decision making under pressure. Across his educational work, Michael combines structured teaching with practical examples, case discussion, and opportunities for participants to consider how they will apply their learning.
His aim is to make complex ideas accessible while respecting the complexity of the situations people face. He helps participants leave with questions, insights, and practical tools they can carry into their work and lives.
“I believe education is most meaningful when it connects knowledge with experience and creates space for questions, reflection, and new perspectives. My role is to help people think critically, deepen their understanding, and carry their learning into their work and everyday lives.”
